Katie Beaver is a contract therapist with Clearhope Counseling and Wellness Center and sees clients at the Sugar Land Office:  1111 Hwy. 6 Suite 255 Sugar Land, TX 77478

Katie Beaver is a Licensed Professional Counselor (#74728) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#202831).  She received her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sam Houston State University (Go Bearkats!).  Prior to going to graduate school, she was a 7th grade Language Arts teacher for 7 years.

As a therapist, Katie has experience in a variety of settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and schools.  She completed a year-long internship with a community college, facilitating study skills, time-management, and personal growth groups while also providing personal counseling to students.  At an inpatient psychiatric hospital, Katie assisted patients dealing with acute mental health concerns by providing group, individual, and family therapy.  She then worked in a community mental health agency, completing diagnostic evaluations and connecting clients to the services that best fit their needs.  More recently, Katie worked for a medical hospital system, providing emergency psychiatric assessments and crisis counseling.

Katie has a passion for helping tweens and young teens adjust to the unique period of life known as adolescence, first as a teacher and now as a therapist.  In addition to working with tweens and teens, she enjoys working with families.  Katie utilizes solution-focused and cognitive behavioral therapy approaches to assist clients in meeting their goals.  Whether working with clients individually or in a family context, she applies Bowen Family Systems Theory, conceptualizing each person as part of a larger whole.  Katie has a breadth of experience with multiple mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidality, trauma, substance use, and grief.

In her free time, Katie enjoys catching up and laughing with her friends; going to see a scary movie; losing hours in a good book; or spending an afternoon at a museum.  She loves getting to visit her family in Florida and the UK and especially enjoys couch time with her 13 year old dog, Shuggie.
