Biography
Congratulations on taking your first step towards wellness! My name is Rachel Sword, and I have been a licensed counselor since 2007 – I practiced in North Carolina before moving to Texas in 2014, and have experience working in community mental health, emergency room and mobile crisis, and psychiatric hospital assessment and referral. I enjoy working with individuals and groups, from teens to adults and geriatric. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in Texas, as well as a board-certified National Certified Counselor. It is my privilege to have the opportunity to work with you on your journey.
I use a reality-based approach which is person-centered and trauma-informed, allowing me to focus on where you are emotionally and move forward from there at your own pace. During our work, I will use various techniques, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis (TA), Gestalt, solution-focused, and mindfulness, among others which may be beneficial for you. My approaches are meant to enhance our therapeutic relationship so you can obtain the most effective treatment, and I welcome feedback during our sessions on what is and is not working well so you can continue making forward progress.
My clients include those experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, sexual issues, substance use, relationship conflict, and other life stressors. I especially enjoy working with veterans and their caregivers, LGBTQ+ community members and allies, first responders, professionals/executives, those involved with the justice system (ages 13+), those dealing with both mental health and medical issues (co-occurring), those diagnosed with bipolar or schizophrenia, and people living with HIV/AIDS. I offer both in-person and virtual sessions, and am honored to be a consideration for being your therapist.
